How to install BMW Scanner 1.4.0 on Win 7

Most owners have no issue installing BMW Scanner 1.4.0 software PA Soft on XP system. But when it comes to Win 7 system, some people are having quite a bit of trouble installing the BMW diagnostic tool on the 64bit side, even though there are already threads telling them how. Well, after reading through many of them, I noticed that the threads only provide partial instructions, instructions even myself, an expert (on a scale between novice, advanced, expert, master) computer user struggled, that is for a few hours. It did make my head boggle up though. So here it is ladies and gents.

Go ahead and install the BMW scanner software. After you're done, plug the scanner into your OBD2 port, without having it plugged into your computer. Wait like 5 seconds (not 100% you even need to wait the 5 sec). Then, plug it in. Your computer will try several things. It'll attempt to find the driver and succeed, or not. It does not matter.
Go to http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm and scroll down to the box with listing of drivers of different operating systems. Since we are doing windows, I am only covering that. The 1st row shows windows. All the way at the right hand side, under comments, you will see "setup executable". You can download the drivers themselves but this thing does it all for you. It is much easier. Install it once downloaded. A black DOS like window pops up and installs it. The box usually disappears in like 5 seconds.
Once done, go to control panel, then device manager and right click on BMW scanner (usually under other devices) to select update driver software.
Select the option "Browse my computer for driver software". Then pick let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Select towards the bottom "Universal serial bus controllers. Look for FTDI on the next screen, on the left hand side under manufacturer. When you click on it, to the right, select USB Serial Converter. Then click next. A message will pop up saying armageddon will reign down upon you and your computer if you install this and it isn't compatible. I decided to go for it and take the risk. Once installed, open up your BMW scanner software and start messing with all your options.

I start Jaguar DIY repairs 3 years ago and have experience of tools at 3 levels – ELM327 scanner, JLR Mangoose cable and latest Mangoose Pro. The first 2 are aimed at the budget DIY end of the market; the 3rd level (until now) being at the professional tool and expensive end of the market. Here is how I now see it:
ELM327 Bluetooth scanner, the most basic OBDII tool, is great for reporting DTCs (just like the S-Types on-board ETM). In addition, it is able to work on anything beyond the P codes, clear these and reset CEL etc.
Next come to the V131 to V138 JLR Mangoose cables. A real Mongoose costs thousands; the clone Mangoose only costs less than $50 on Aobd2shop. The JLR Mangoose cable is a combination of cable for connecting the cars OBDII port with a USB equipped laptop with a total diagnostic and programming software package. By far it works perfect, can do everything I need. Until very recently, even as the software version has extended from V131 to V138, reliable operation seems dependent on solely Win XP and I have to install it under XP mode in Win7 system.
Now comes the latest 2014 version of JLR Mangoose Pro ... along with an explosion of YouTube clips to lead us through software installation and use. This version broadens the o/s options to Vista and Win7 and is now fully functional on a wide range of Jaguar models from 1999 to 2014. It can be purchased for less than US$90 from V138 JLR Mangoose Pro.

$33 Mini VCI Cable with Techstream Software

There is a $33 2014 Mini VCI cable that comes with Techstream software and drivers that let me check/change a number of variables in my Lexus. I am not a vendor, nor affiliated in any way - just purchased it off the web after reading several references to it while researching AHC threads here in Mud. It has been extensively discussed on Tundra Net (search TechStream software and cable for $35). If anyone is interested in it, learning more:

This weekend I used it to:
A. Read AHC pressures to correctly crank TBs (4 turns, both sides on original set up) - front pressures now at nominal spec and confirmed rear springs are a little tired as rear AHC pressure just outside range. A valid pressure test removes a lot of speculation and blind cranking of TBs on AHC vehicles. And yes, based on hitting my local calibrated speed hump at 30 mph it does dampen better with the correct TB/front pressure loading.
B. Reset steering angle sensor to get rid of annoying 10 degree off centered wheel. Not sure how many alignment places reset the SAS as a matter of course, or if you don't ask for it specifically. I know my local Firestone does a reasonable alignment in that the truck drives straight, equal turning effort and no uneven tire wear - but the wheel was never centered properly. Only time I had it aligned at the stealer they charged an extra $10, on top of the $129, to reset the SAS.
C. Verified yaw and zero yaw sensor values were set to "0.
D. Turn off the 3s delayed wipe after using windshield washer.
E. Turn on "unlock all doors" with one push on remote (already had manually set lock/unlock on shifting from "P").
F. Adjusted headlight off and interior light delays.
G. ran "vehicle health check" and OBDII live tests to monitor O2 sensor voltages among other things, and won't be buying replacement sensors (still original) now. No DTC or MIL, it is just that some say 02s need to be replaced as a PM item, and others don't feel the same way. So until I get a DTC I'll leave them alone.
I have not used TechStream from the TIS site so cannot compare or comment on features and functions of the "official" software to what comes on the mini CD (V9.30.002 cracked), but I am happy. Just changing the remote unlock and centering the wheel was worth $33 to me! Still learning what can and cannot be done, what utility/test features are enabled and what's not, and what all the data means.The obd2 tool you can try.

How to use Tango programmer to copy a key transponder?

Firstly, run the Tango key programmer software and select vehicle and read information in the "Info" window. Watch the data location field to locate the memory chip. Locate the chip inside of the immobilizer and read it. Save the read data (dump).
Click the "OPEN IMMOBILIZER FILE" button to download the saved dump.

Then the Tango programmer will start analyzing the dump.
When the programmer confirm the dump is correct, the "WRITE" button will be activated and the "Keys" window will display the range of key numbers that can be created.
Check the "Info" window, especially the Allowed transponder field to make sure the transponder you use is of the right type.

Place the transponder into the coil on Tango key programmer.
Choose the key cuts you want create in the "Keys" window.
Click the "WRITE" button.
The writing process will start and transponder will be stored with the appropriate data.
Save a new immobilizer dump when the Tango key programmer software asks you to.
Save a standard File Save dialog when it is displayed on the program.
The new data is saved and must be written into the immobilizer

(Solved) Volvo Vida 2013D won't connect to car

Last week, a customer told me that his Volvo Vida Dice 2013D would not connect to his Volvo properly. Below is a screenshot of the error message from his Vida software:

According to the picture, I could determine that the problem was caused by failed Volvo Vida software installation. Why I say so? There are three reasons:

1. As we can see, the information under “Communication tool” is not displayed successfully, while information in other parts is shown alright. If there is no device information in the form, it likely indicates that the software is not well installed.

2.The Interface Test function does not work for all Volvo Vida Dice devices. Therefore the test result ”TEST NOT OK” is not reliable.

3.If the software is installed well, there will be device information in "Communication tool" even if the Vida device does not connect the PC, as shown in picture below. In other words, when the device information is not displayed, users should try to reinstall the software.

I told the customer to uninstall his Vida software and reinstall it. After that his Vida could work properly.The obd2 tool so good.

DTC P1810 – Why it comes up and how to fix it?

Recently my friend took complete motor and transmission from an old car to his Chevrolet Impala as the harness and PCM on his Impala was damaged. Then he got 2 P1810 codes. He tried to clear the codes with GM Tech2 diagnostic scanner but the codes returned after 2-3 engine starts, or after sitting for while. Then he came to me for help.

DTC P1810 indicates to (Transmission Fluid Pressure) TFP Valve Switch Malfunction, which means there could be problems related to TFP valve switch. To find out the issue, let us have a look at the TFP valve switch circuit and PCM description:
The automatic transmission fluid pressure (TFP) manual valve position switch consists of five pressure switches (two normally-closed and three normally-open) and a transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor combined into one unit. The combined unit mounts on the valve body.
The powertrain control module (PCM) supplies ignition voltage for each range signal. By grounding one or more of the circuits through various combinations of the pressure switches, the PCM detects which manual valve position you select. The PCM compares the actual voltage combination of the switches to a TFP manual valve position switch combination table stored in memory.
The TFP manual valve position switch cannot distinguish between PARK and NEUTRAL because the monitored valve body pressures are identical. With the engine OFF and the ignition switch in the RUN position, the TFP manual valve position switch indicates PARK or NEUTRAL. Disconnecting the AT inline 20-way connector removes the ground potential for the three range signals to the PCM. In this case, with the engine OFF, and the ignition switch in the RUN position, D2 will be indicated.
When the PCM detects an invalid state of the TFP manual valve position switch circuit by deciphering the TFP manual valve position switch inputs, then DTC P1810 sets. DTC P1810 is a type B DTC.
The P1810 error code usually comes up in several situations:
No VSS assembly DTCs P0502 or P0503.
The system voltage is 8-18 volts.
The engine speed is greater than 450 RPM for 5 seconds.
The engine is not in fuel cutoff.
The engine torque is 50-450 lb ft.
The engine vacuum is 0-105 kPa.
Now let us go down to business and find out how to fix the P1810 problem.
First of all, per0form Powertrain Diagnostic System check.
Then go to a Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls.
Check transmission fluid level.
Take out GM Tech2 scanner.
Turn ON the car ignition, with the engine OFF.
Record the DTC Freeze Frame and Failure Records.
Clear the DTC. Before clearing the DTC, use the obd2 tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records. Using the Clear Info function erases the Freeze Frame and Failure Records from the PCM.
Start the engine and idle at normal operating temperature.
Apply the brake pedal.
Select each transmission range: P, R, N, D4, D3, D2 and D1.
Does each selected transmission range match the Scan Tool TFP Sw.
Go to Diagnostic Aids
Turn OFF the ignition.
Disconnect the AT inline 20-way connector (additional DTCs may set).
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Does the Scan Tool TFP Sw. A/B/C parameter indicates HI for all range signal states?
Turn OFF the ignition.
Install the J 44152 jumper harness (20 pins) on the engine side of the AT inline 20-way connector.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Using the J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) and the J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the voltage from terminal N of the J 44152 to ground. Refer to Automatic Transmission Inline Harness Connector End View.
Measure the voltage from terminal R of the J 44152 to ground.
Measure the voltage from terminal P of the J 44152 to ground.
Connect a fused jumper wire from terminal N of the J 44152 (signal circuit A) to ground while monitoring the Scan Tool TFP Sw. A/B/C parameter. When signal circuit A (CKT 1224) is grounded, do any other signal circuits indicate LOW?
Connect a fused jumper wire from terminal R of the J 44152 (signal circuit B) to ground while monitoring the Scan Tool TFP Sw. A/B/C parameter. When signal circuit B (CKT 1225) is grounded, do any other signal circuits indicate LOW?
Connect a fused jumper wire from terminal P of the J 44152 (signal circuit C) to ground while monitoring the Scan Tool TFP Sw. A/B/C parameter. When signal circuit C (CKT 1226) is grounded, do any other signal circuits indicate LOW?
Test the signal circuits (CKTs 1224, 1225 and 1226) of the TFP manual valve position switch that did not indicate HI for a short to ground between the PCM connector C1 and C2 and the AT inline 20-way connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Repairs. Did you find and correct the condition?
Test the signal circuits (CKTs 1224, 1225 and 1226) of the TFP manual valve position switch that did not indicate ignition voltage for an open between the PCM connector C1 and C2 and the AT inline 20-way connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Repairs. Did you find and correct the condition?
Test the affected signal circuits of the TFP manual valve position switch for a shorted together condition between the PCM connector C1 and C2 and the AT inline 20-way connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Repairs. Did you find and correct the condition?
Test the signal circuits (CKTs 1224, 1225 and 1226) of the TFP manual valve position switch for an open or shorted condition between the TFP manual valve position switch and the AT inline 20-way connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Repairs. Did you find a condition? Replace the AT wiring harness assembly. Refer to Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation (TCC PWM) Solenoid, TCC Solenoid, and Wiring Harness. Did you complete the replacement?
Replace the TFP manual valve position switch. Refer to Valve Body and Pressure Switch
Replace the PCM. Refer to PCM Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls. Did you complete the replacement?
Perform the following procedure in order to verify the repair:
Select DTC.
Select Clear Info.
Operate the vehicle under the following conditions:
A. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for at least 2 seconds.
B. Start the vehicle and idle for 5 seconds.
C. Drive in D4 until the TCC locks for 10 seconds.
D. Continue to run the engine for at least 60 seconds from startup.
